Editorial policy and corrections
Last updated October 12, 2026
People read this site before they put money into a county auction, or while trying to recover money a tax sale took from them. Both deserve information they can check. These are the rules every page is held to.
Primary sources, or it doesn't go in
A rate, deadline, fee or date is published only if it can be traced to the statute, a court decision, the agency or county that runs the sale, or a public dataset — and the source is named on the page. If a figure cannot be traced, it is left out rather than estimated. When a source we relied on disappears or stops saying what we quoted, the claim comes down: the county surplus-list directory, for instance, keeps a list of the entries it removed and why.
Dates you can see
Calendar entries, county guides and surplus lists show the date they were last checked against their source. A sale that has already happened is labelled as held. We would rather show an old date honestly than a fresh-looking page that nobody has re-checked.
How AI tools are used
TaxLien.io is a one-person project, and AI tools help with research, drafting and the scripts that build the data pages. They do not replace the sources: every page is built on statutes, notices and datasets that are linked so you can read them yourself, and the sourcing rule above applies to every sentence no matter who or what drafted it. Pages generated mostly from data are labelled as such on the methodology page and kept out of Google's index until they have a written guide.
Corrections
If you find an error, send it through the contact page with the page address and, if you have it, the source that shows the correct information. We check it against the primary source. If the page is wrong, it is fixed and its check date is updated. When a correction changes something a reader may have acted on — a sale date, a rate, a deadline, a claim window — the page says what changed and when. Messages that only disagree with the law as written are read, but the page will keep describing the law as it is.
Independence
No county, auction platform, title company, surplus-recovery firm or investor pays for coverage or reviews pages before they are published. The site does not take payment to list a sale, and it has no affiliate links to auction or recovery services. When recovery firms come up, it is to explain what they charge and what the law lets them charge.
Advertising
TaxLien.io may show ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are chosen by Google, are labelled as ads, and never affect what is published. Two kinds of page carry no ads: pages we keep out of Google's index, and the official surplus-list directory, where an ad for a recovery firm could appear next to our warning about recovery firms.
Not advice
Everything here is general information about how the law and the sales work. It is not legal, tax or investment advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy any lien or property. See the disclaimer.
